DAILY PRAYER FORMAT

Daily prayer
Lord, I praise you today
Lord, I give myself to you today
Lord, I ask you to help me today

THE GREATEST COMMANDMENT
Jesus said, “The most important commandment is this:
‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’  The second is this:  ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’  There is no commandment greater than these.”

THE GENERAL CONFESSION
Most merciful God, I confess that I have sinned against you in thought word and deed by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart. I have not loved my neighbor as myself.  I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ have mercy on me and forgive me, that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name.  Amen

THE APOSTLES CREED

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended into hell.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.  Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father who art in heaven
hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.

PERSONAL CONSECRATION (say one or more)

Almighty and eternal God, so draw my heart to you, so guide my mind, so fill my imagination, so control my will, that I may be wholly yours, utterly dedicated to you; and then use me as you will, for your glory and the welfare of your people; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Deliver me O God from a slothful mind, from all lukewarmness and all dejection of spirit. I know these will only deaden my love for you: mercifully free my heart from them, and give me a loving, zealous, active and cheerful spirit; that I may vigorously do whatever you command, thankfully suffer whatever you choose for me, and be ever eager to obey in all things your holy love.

God, I offer myself to You —  to do with me as You will.   Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Your will. Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to others of Your Power, Your Love, and Your way of life.  May I do Your  will always!

GOD, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,  courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.  Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time;  Accepting hardship as the pathway to peace. Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is,  not as I would have it.  Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life, and supremely happy with Him forever in the next.

THE GENERAL THANKSGIVING
Almighty God, Father of all mercies,
we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks
for all your goodness and loving-kindness
to us and to all whom you have made.
We bless you for our creation, preservation,
and all the blessings of this life;
but above all for your immeasurable love
in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ;
for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory.
And, we pray,
give us such an awareness of your mercies,
that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise,
not only with our lips, but in our lives,
by giving up our selves to your service,
and by walking before you
in holiness and righteousness all our days;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit,
be honor and glory throughout all ages.  Amen.
